UBIKWA is a high-tech startup  located at the Parc Científic i Tecnològic de la Universitat de Girona (Spain) .  They have developped a low cost smartsilo sensor, solar powered that can be installed in only 5 minutes !

INSYLO is a solution to remotely monitor the stocks of the silos of the livestock farms and optimize the replenishment routes. It is composed of a new generation device, installed on top of the silos, and a collaborative cloud platform that provides all the apps and services needed by farmers and feed suppliers.

Currently, most of the farmers control the amount of feed available in the silos of the farm in a manual and risky way. In a periodic basis, they have to climb on top of the silos to make visual estimations of the stocks. On the other hand, feed suppliers have to process the replenishment orders mostly by phone calls and lack the necessary data to optimize the delivery routes and the production plans. With INSYLO, when the stocks reach a critical level, farmers receive an alarm in his mobile phones and send the replenishment orders by a simple click. Feed suppliers process the orders in an automatic way and have access to the stocks of his customers to optimize in advance the production plans and replenishment routes.

INSYLO is an affordable, plug&sense solution that will reduce up to a 25% the logistics costs and CO2 emissions of the replenishment process of the feed silos. Only in Europe, the sector can save more than 2 B € each year with this innovation.

They chose FIWARE

The decision about the architecture and components to use to develop our cloud platform was not a trivial thing.  There were a lot of requirements to take into account. We found all this and more in the FIWARE technology.

Our FIWARE experience has been very gratifying and successful. The use of FIWARE has accelerated our developments and reduced the time to market. In a total period of 9 months we were able to develop a very flexible and robust platform to scale global and provide a reliable service to our customers.

After being selected by our accelerator (SmartAgrifood) as one of the three High Flyers and receiving additional funding, we were also offered to pitch to investors in different European events and we got our first private investor very early.  That help us to accelerate the developments and quickly move to the production and selling phases.
FIWARE program extended our networking context to a European level and give us the necessary reputation to win other important prizes we applied: IoT Global Call (looking for the best global IoT startups) and the CommBeBiz Awards (excellence in Bioeconomy research projects).

 We have also been offered the opportunity to show case our technology in the Mobile World Congress 2016 in the Smart Farm space set up by the GSMA. This will be our first public presentation showing to a massive audience the first silo of the world powered by FIWARE.
