Are companies aware of the concept of Responsible Innovation?
Did you know that CEEI Héraclès, EBN Member, is one of the partners of the Belgian Nanotech RI Lab?
EBN is offering to SMEs and business support organisations to join the thematic Responsible Innovation Labs (Health in Spain, Nanotech in Belgium, Cybersecurity in UK) now active in Europe under the umbrella of COMPASS project.
Our objective is to support European SMEs to understand Responsible Innovation and benefit from this holistic approach to innovation.
We have recently released the new edition of COMPASS newsletter, where:
- we have the pleasure to publish the expert paper from Klaus Leisinger, COMPASS Advisory Board member, linking the concept of Responsible Innovation to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development;
- we introduce "On my own...at work", a COMPASS case study competition winner in the category diversity;
- we present an article from Alexander Auer and Katharina Jarmai on the perception companies have about the RRI concept;
- we highlight relevant events and opportunities.
We would here gather your attention on the interesting article "Are companies aware of the concept of Responsible Innovation?", addressing the question of how Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) can be implemented in SMEs and presenting insights from CEOs of SMEs in the Austrian medical device sector.
In a nutshell, the authors confirm that SMEs are largely unaware of the RRI concept. At the same time, however, it is possible to identify current practices that already operationalise aspects of RRI in SMEs. The key to further promote the RRI concept is therefore to build upon existing practices and ensure that the implementation of RRI is in line with specific organisational and contextual factors.
