Dr. Liang-Han Hsieh has been one of the ITRI overseas representatives since September 1996. From March 2006 to February 2009 he was appointed the General Director of the International Business Center (IBC) to design and supervise ITRI’s overall operations outside of Taiwan. IBC and the ITRI outposts represented the spearhead of ITRI's R&D Internationalization Program.
Dr. Hsieh finished his Bachelor of Science degree from National Taiwan University in 1974, and worked 3 years after his military services as nuclear power safety engineer at Taiwan Power Company. He went abroad in 1980 for further study. After obtaining his diploma in engineer at Technical University Berlin (TU Berlin), Dr. Hsieh worked at IWF/TU Berlin (Institute for Machine Tools and Manufacturing Technologies) and Fraunhofer IPK (Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technologies) as research staff from 1984 to 1989. In 1989, he received his Doctor in Engineering (Dr.-Ing.) degree from TU Berlin. He was then promoted to Chief Engineer and Department Head of Assembly Technology at the IWF and IPK. He led during this period of time several research and development projects for the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, the German Federal Ministry for Research and Technology and the EU Framework Programs. His area of expertise is mechanical engineering with focus on assembly process, system and planning, automation and machine tools.
